I need to start this at the beginning. The Da Vince Code was a terrible, horrible movie. After all the build up over how great the book was (or so I’ve heard as I’ve never read it) the movie was just bad. Tom Hanks turns in his first performance that just left me angry as I left the theater. I wasn’t offended, really…Unless you call feeling cheated out of ten dollars offended.
So I must have been high to venture into the theater earlier this week to see Angels & Demons. It’s a sequel, more or less, to a movie I HATED. Alas, there I was in line. When you don’t have anything else to do you find yourself willing to see many movies you wouldn’t normally see. Right, 17 Again? But this movie was different. It wasn’t like the first one. Where I found myself angry at the first one, I actually found myself trying to solve the ‘mystery’ in this one.
Was it a great movie? Oh by no means, however it was a good popcorn flick. I’ve been trying to figure out a way to describe this movie accurately and what I’ve come up with as follows: It’s like National Treasure…Without the lightheartedness and without the Nic Cage. So while that’s two strikes against it, Hanks turns in a MUCH better part in this than he did in the last. And the whole thing goes down at the Vatican. That’s an interesting setting to me.
So is it going to set the world on fire? No, however it is totally a good way to spend a couple hours if you’ve got the time. It’s an interesting mystery movie that goes through the ins and outs of a locale I’ll never get to see that deeply. So check it out if you’ve got the time.
