I didn’t know this movie existed until Saturday morning. Evidently it’s from the guy who did the two shaky Jason Bourne movies. I enjoyed them enough, and this one was also starring Matt Damon so I figured I’d give it a shot. Turns out Holly Flax (Dunder Mifflin’s former HR person on The Office) is also in it and is pretty damn good as the reporter looking for an exclusive in Iraq during the initial invasion during the early 2000s.

So it seems Matt Damon is some sort of head of a military troop hunting down phantom WMDs in Iraq. You see in this fictional plot the “US President,” some fellow named George W. Bush…What a name… Anyways. He’s claimed that there are weapons of MASS FUCKING DESTRUCTION hiding in a bunker somewhere in Iraq. The trouble is they blew up Iraq and can’t find them. Crazy, right? Only in the movies. Anyways, Matt Damon, smart soldier type that he is, starts thinking maybe the government is jerking him around about this WMD thing. Which is insanity, because the government would never lie to you or declare war on a foreign nation for reasons other than it explains. Anyways, he goes down the rabbit hole and unravels a vast conspiracy

Matt Damon does the Matt Damon job here, in that he’s just really damn good. The thing about Matt Damon is he’s great in practically everything. Even The Informant(!), which wasn’t so awesome, he was really good in. Matt Damon is just awesome. And Amy Ryan (The aforementioned Holly Flax) was great as well.

I’m not sure where the movie was shot and I’m too lazy to look it up but fuck if it wasn’t believable for Iraq. Or as much as I know about Iraq never having been there. Enthralling (COMPLETELY FICTIONAL) story (THAT WOULD NEVER FUCKING HAPPEN MAN!), great action, an awesome looking film to boot. Check it out if you can. And no, unlike the recent rush of 3D nonsense, this one will be just fine on DVD.
